Also found a baptismal index for Alexis with same information
(F>Frenchville;Baptemes>1864-1880, image 63, pg. 38 #81)
Alex is listed on the 1880 census with his parents as 12 yrs. old.
He is listed on the 1900 census in Madawaska living with Baptiste Leveque who is widowed & has a daughter & 2 sons; Alexis is listed as being born July 1867, 32 yrs. old, his relationship to head of household is 'Tramp'!!, his occupation is 'Tramp!!'; he is the only person in the state of Maine with this listing; the census taker was Fortunat Pelletier (a relation?)
On the 1910 census, Alexis is living with his sister Anais & her husband Paul Daigle & their family and his mother, Marie, is living with them also.
I found an Alexandre Pelletier on the 1920 census in St. Agatha, 52 yrs. old, a boarder, living with Belonie & Demerise Gervais; he is a 'brander' on a farm.
On the 1930 census, Alexis Pelletier is listed as an inmate in the poor farm in Fort Kent; the warden is Mora Dumad, with his wife & 4 other inmates living there; Alexis is 62 yrs. old.
Found an article & photo of Alexis from the Madawaska Historical Society saying how he was a folk heroe/boogey-man of the French families in the St. John Valley; he was called 'Papineau'; the photo is of him with a woman & young girl & they are all laughing. (written by Geraldine P. Chasse)
Found another picture of Alexis in the book 'The St. John Valley Story' on pg. 122, 'Pappino: His name brings many tales to all the poeple of the Valley. He would go from house to house begging for food and lodging.'
Received a copy of Alexis' record of a death from Maine Vital Records; shows he died on Aug 5, 1931 of damages from an auto accident 5 days earlier, he was single, 64 yrs. old, lived in Fort Kent, born on Jul 14, 1867 in Frenchville to Severin Pelletier & Marie Dubois; informant was Sister M. Catherine; he was buried on Aug 7, 1931 in St. Louis' Cemetery, Fort Kent, ME
