Found a 'World War II and Korean Veterans Interred Overseas' record on Ancestry.com for Robert P. Penda from CT, Private First Class, 15th Infantry Battalion 5th Armoured Division; died Dec. 11, 1944 in The Netherlands; awarded Purple Heart medal.
In the book 'Bristol Connecticut in World War II', page 39, I found an entry in the Roll of Honor - Gold Stars section for Robert Pasquale Penda #31382276; says he was born Jul 16, 1925 in Bristol, a member of the well-known 'Ghost Division' in Paris, he was killed at Hurtgen Forest near Strass, Germany.
In the book 'Veterans Memorial Boulevard Bristol - A Tribute to Veterans', there is a picture of Robert & a writeup saying he graduated from South Side School in 1939 & Bristol High School in 1943; entered the Army Sept 15, 1943 & became a Pfc in Co. G., 15th Armored Infantry 5th Armored Div.; killed in action Dec 11, 1944 at Hurtgen Forest near Strass Germany; last seen carrying a tripod of a machine gun into a wooded area; he was 21 yrs. old.
