I found the correct ship's name from his Naturalization Papers from NARA; then searched the whole ship's manifest for him; he was on the last few pages of the over 200 pg. manifest) from the port of Genoa/Naples, Italy left Naples 30 Dec 1901, from the town of Acerra, Italy with $6.50 in his pockets, paid his own passage, destination was New Haven, CT, to his brother-in-law Francesco DeLucia on 8 Myrtle St.

Census |
27 Apr 1910 |
New Haven, New Haven, CT |
- On the 1910 US Census, for New Haven, CT 64 James St. there is listed Camille Florio, male, brother-in-law to the head of the family who was Pasquale Mascola, 39 yrs old, married 5 yrs., immigr. 1902, salesman in lumberyard, spoke Italian, couldn't read but could write; I believe this should have been recorded as Pasquale Messina & his wife Christine. The marriage date, # of children all match Pasquale & Christina but Pasquale had returned from a trip to Acerra, Italy on Nov. 2, 1909 & left Christina & his 2 daughters in Acerra with his family; they did not return to the U.S. until Sept. 14, 1910! I think that the census taker just repeated the name from the above line which was Camille Florio, Pasquale's mother & Pasquale Messina got listed as Camille Florio & Christine got listed as his wife & no children were recorded since they weren't there(?)

Notes |
- In Aug. 2009 I made contact with Messinas living in Acerra that are related and was told by Teresa Messina in an email 8/3/09 that Christine Mascola's parents asked to meet someone from the Messina family before they let their daughter get engaged to Pasquale so Pasquale's brother Giovanni whom he got along with very well came over to the U.S. for that reason.
